Since its 2016 acquisition by Citizen, Alpina’s adventure-themed watches have become markedly more interesting. Last year’s entry-level Alpiner Quartz, for example, is now available with a GMT option on a strap or bracelet with a satin or polished finish and with grey or blue dials.

Keen to articulate its eco credentials, Alpina presents the Seastrong Diver Gyre line, models from which are limited to 1,883 pieces each. The Gyre has a Sellita automatic movement, 300-metre water-resistance and can come with a 36mm or 44mm case and a Nato-style strap, both of which are made from recycled plastics collected in the oceans’ rotating currents (“gyres”). £1,350.
